What is Individual Counselling?

Individual counselling is a therapy session, usually around 45 minutes to an hour long, which involves a single client who confides in a single counsellor, or therapist. When you are involved in an individual counselling session, you are the main priority of the session. The primary focus of one on one therapy is to place the client in a safe environment where he or she can discuss and analyze any issues he or she may have with a trained provider.

There are many reasons an individual will seek out counselling are general, and many ways that you can benefit from it regardless of the reasons you originally came in for. It can be from coping with grief, handling depression, psychological trauma, or even simply to learn more about what makes you do the things you do. You do not need a serious excuse to see a therapist for this type of counselling, but individual counselling is not just a chit chat about things in general, it is usually focussed on a particular subject or issue in your life.

In one on one counselling, we focus on the individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in order to uncover the sometimes deep routed reasons a person is experiencing the things that they experience on a regular basis. This can result in significant changes in a person’s environment and often leads to life-altering insight for how your past is influencing your future.

At The Liberation Place, we utilize many treatment modalities in our individual therapy, including the tools provided in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Psychoanalysis, Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Attachment Theory.
