Snapshot 832

All of the work I do at The Liberation Place, the groups, workshops, talks, and classes, are built around the research conducted for evidenced based treatment modalities. Each of these approaches are designed to work on supporting people with their addictive, compulsive, and obsessive coping mechanisms, as well as the mental health diagnoses that go along with these behaviour patterns. I consider myself to be a behaviourist in the way that I work. This means I'm not necessarily tied to the labels associated with the numerous different diagnoses that people receive, I'm more interested in the behavioural responses that are tied to the symptoms that are connected with the diagnosis, as these are what I consider to be the coping mechanisms we use to deal with the unmet needs associated with our own unique childhood experiences.

Over the years I've spent my time working in many different environments connected to addiction and mental health, and while I don't have the extensive educational background that comes with something like a PHD for example, I am schooled in effectively living the life I want to live according to using the skills of DBT and Schema Therapy in the world of actuality. I don't talk about these skills from the protective bubble of a textbook, I describe what it takes to actually live them, in the real world, and give examples of how we can transfer their effectiveness to our own unique lifestyle.

At the same time, we have to acknowledge that the reason these skills are as successful as they are, is because of the research that has been done into implementing their philosophy with real people. And while the stuff we talk about in all the podcasts, video's, group, and one on one conversations here at The Liberation Place is based on our lived experience, it isn't possible without the years of work that was done by the people I'm acknowledging on this page. These are people who are highly educated, and successful in their chosen fields. I highly recommend taking a look at their work, if you’re someone who likes to look at the research behind the conversations we have in this space.

The following is a list of people who have influenced the work I do in a significant way, along with links to their work. I hope you find the same type of inspiration as I do from these people, as always if you want to know more, come join our free, online meetings and join the conversation!
