The Starting Point

Living the life you want to live is built on the fundamental principles we get from the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills training program, and the theories of personality development we get from Shema Therapy. Creating a lifestyle that promotes these principles revolves around living a values-based life. In order to explore what stops us from implementing this balanced and effective way of living, we first have to develop a solid understanding of who we are, what areas of life are important to us, and how we want to behave inside of these areas. The following is a list of steps we can take to achieve this. PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME and don't rush through these steps.

Completing each of these steps gives us an idea of what it might look like to Live the Life we Want to Live and be the person we want to be, in the areas of life that are important to us, according to our authentic core values. If we struggle to even complete these exercises, it might be an opportunity to explore the reason why, not from a judgmental standpoint, but from a place of curiosity. Being interested in why we fail to take an action we know will be effective to support living the life we want to live opens up the possibility to see the different stories that exist within our system.

The next steps involve implementing this way of living into a structured lifestyle.
